Located in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds, Benezette Township is known as being the best location to catch a glimpse of the state’s elk herd, the largest free-roaming elk herd east of the Mississippi River. Alongside the premier elk watching, the area offers a wide array of outdoor recreational opportunities throughout the beautiful landscape such as hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and more.

New Roof for the Township
The Benezette Township Municipal Building will be getting a new roof starting Monday, July 24th. This should be completed by Friday, July 28th.
Black Snake will be Closed
Black Snake Road will be closed the morning of July 20th (Thursday) for a replacement of a drain. Please try to avoid this area. We appreciate your cooperation and patience while we make improvements to our roads here in Benezette Township.
Garbage Dump Area
Benezette Township offers a dump area for the residents and camp owners with accounts with Waste Management. As a property owner in Benezette Township you are required to have garbage in the township; this is a way to keep the township clean. To sign up for garbage you can call 1-800-866-4460. The dump area has several signs which often get unnoticed or ignored. This dump area is for your “residential” waste.
In order to keep costs down and due to the rules of Waste Management, we DO NOT accept:
- televisions & computer monitors
- electronics
- construction material
- tires
There are 2 large roll-off dumpsters where you are permitted to put furniture and metals. We are always amazed at how many mattresses we receive! We think everyone must be sleeping quite comfortably in Benezette Township.
* The Dump Area is monitored by surveillance cameras & if you dump TV’s, Computer Monitors, Electronics, Construction Materials, or tires you will be reported to the state police. Elk Co. Solid Waste Authority / Recycling in St. Marys does accept TV’s, Computers, etc. You can contact them at 814-776-5373. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
